General Questions
Common questions about ABA therapy cost, access, and qualifications in Ontario.
How much does ABA therapy cost in Ontario?
The cost of ABA therapy varies based on the intensity and format of services. However, most families in Ontario access ABA therapy through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP), which can fund from $5,000 to $140,000 per year depending on your child's age and needs. Private insurance may also cover a portion of costs. Contact us to discuss your specific situation.
How long is the wait to start therapy?
At KidsTruCare, we aim for an intake-to-first-session time of 1–2 weeks for families with OAP approval or private funding in place. We prioritize fast intake because early intervention has the greatest impact. Contact us to begin the process.
What qualifications do your therapists have?
Our clinical supervisors are Registered Behaviour Analysts (RBAs) registered as Registered Behaviour Analysts (RBAs) with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). Direct therapy is delivered by Registered Behaviour Technicians (RBTs) under close RBA supervision. We also employ Registered ECEs and Behaviour Therapists.
How long is a therapy session?
Session length depends on your child's age, goals, and program intensity. Typical sessions range from 1.5 to 3 hours for younger children and up to 4–5 hours for more intensive programs. Your RBA will recommend the appropriate schedule during the assessment phase.
Do you provide home-based therapy only?
Yes. KidsTruCare provides in-home ABA therapy across Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge, and Whitby. We design goals around your child's real routines at home and in natural community settings.
Is ABA therapy covered by OHIP?
ABA therapy is not covered by OHIP. However, it is covered under the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) for eligible children. Many employer benefit plans also provide coverage. Our team can help you understand your options.
OAP & Funding Support
Key OAP guidance for families, including eligibility, coverage, and how to start.
What is the OAP?
The Ontario Autism Program (OAP) is administered by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. It provides direct funding to families of children and youth (up to age 18) diagnosed with ASD so they can purchase approved autism services from eligible providers.
What OAP funding covers
OAP funding typically supports core clinical services such as functional behaviour assessments, skills assessments, one-to-one ABA sessions, behaviour support plan development, and ongoing RBA supervision. It can also support caregiver-mediated interventions like parent training, coaching, and home implementation guidance.
How to access OAP funding
Start by obtaining an ASD diagnosis from a qualified clinician, then register with the Ontario Autism Program. Once your funding confirmation is issued, choose an eligible service provider, complete intake, and begin therapy. Our team can help you understand each step and required documents.
