2. Clinical Evaluation
A RBA (BCBA)-led assessment identifies strengths, priorities, and a personalized care plan.
The Clinical Evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps our clinical team understand your child's strengths, developmental needs, and learning style. This step allows us to gather detailed information that guides the development of a personalized therapy plan tailored specifically to your child.
The evaluation is conducted and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, using evidence-based assessment methods based on Applied Behavior Analysis.
The goal of the clinical evaluation is to identify meaningful goals, understand behavioral patterns, and determine the most effective strategies to support your child's development.
What Families Can Expect During the Evaluation
The clinical evaluation process is designed to be supportive, engaging, and child-friendly. During the assessment, our clinicians will observe and interact with your child through structured and play-based activities. The evaluation may include:
- Direct interaction with your child through structured tasks and play activities
- Observation of communication, social interaction, and behavior patterns
- Review of developmental history and family input
- Assessment of learning, attention, and daily living skills
- Identification of strengths and areas that may benefit from support
Parents and caregivers are an important part of the evaluation process and may be asked questions to help provide additional insight into the child's everyday experiences.
Preparation Checklist
To help the evaluation run smoothly, families may wish to prepare the following:
- Share any concerns or goals you would like the evaluation to address
- Bring or send copies of relevant reports or previous assessments
- Inform the clinical team about any medical or developmental history
- Ensure your child is well-rested and comfortable before the session
- Bring preferred toys or comfort items if helpful for your child
Preparing ahead of time helps ensure the assessment captures the most accurate information about your child's abilities and needs.
Documents That May Be Required
The following documents may be helpful during the clinical evaluation process:
- Previous developmental or psychological assessment reports
- Medical or diagnostic documentation
- School or daycare reports
- Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) if applicable
- Previous therapy reports from other providers
If families do not have these documents available, our intake team can guide you on how to obtain them if needed.
Evaluation Timeline
The clinical evaluation is typically completed over several hours, depending on the child's needs and the depth of the assessment required. Typical timelines may include:
- Evaluation sessions: Approximately 4-8 hours total, sometimes spread across multiple visits
- Observation and data review: Conducted during and after assessment sessions
- Clinical report preparation: Usually completed within 1-2 weeks after the evaluation
Our team will provide clear communication throughout the process and keep families informed about expected timelines.
Assessment Areas
During the evaluation, clinicians may assess several developmental domains, including:
- Communication and language skills
- Social interaction and play abilities
- Learning and attention skills
- Daily living and independence skills
- Behavioral patterns and triggers
- Emotional regulation and coping strategies
Understanding these areas helps clinicians design a therapy plan that targets the most meaningful developmental goals.
After the Clinical Evaluation
Once the evaluation is complete, our team will analyze the collected information and prepare a detailed report. Next steps may include:
- Review of the clinical evaluation results with the family
- Development of an individualized treatment plan
- Recommendations for therapy services and session frequency
- Discussion of therapy goals and expected outcomes
- Scheduling therapy sessions or beginning the intake process
Families will receive clear explanations and guidance on how to move forward with services.
