1. Family Consultation

We learn about your child, answer questions, and outline suitable service options.

The Family Consultation is the first step in beginning services. This initial conversation allows our team to learn more about your child's strengths, developmental needs, and your family's goals for support.

During this consultation, we take time to understand your concerns, answer your questions, and explain the services that may be most appropriate for your child. Our goal is to ensure that families feel informed, supported, and confident about the next steps in the therapy process.

This step also helps determine whether services based on Applied Behavior Analysis may be beneficial for your child.

What Families Can Expect During the Consultation

The consultation is designed to be informative, collaborative, and supportive. During the meeting, families can expect:

  • A discussion about your child's developmental history
  • Questions about communication, behavior, and learning needs
  • Review of current supports or therapies your child may be receiving
  • Explanation of available therapy services and programs
  • Guidance on possible next steps for assessment and treatment planning

This conversation helps our team gain a clearer understanding of your child's unique needs while giving parents the opportunity to ask questions and share their goals.

Preparation Checklist

To make the consultation as helpful as possible, families may wish to prepare a few details ahead of time. Helpful information may include:

  • Your child's developmental history and milestones
  • Any previous therapy or support services received
  • School or daycare reports (if available)
  • Medical or developmental assessment reports
  • A list of current challenges or concerns
  • Questions you would like to discuss with the clinical team

Providing this information helps our clinicians develop a clearer picture of your child's strengths and support needs.

Documents That May Be Helpful

While not always required for the first meeting, the following documents can be useful during the consultation process:

  • Previous developmental or psychological assessment reports
  • Medical reports related to developmental concerns
  • School or daycare progress reports
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) if available
  • Therapy reports from other professionals

If these documents are not available during the consultation, they can often be shared later during the intake process.

Consultation Timeline

The consultation step is typically completed within a short timeframe so families can move forward with the next stage of services. Typical timelines may include:

  • Initial consultation meeting: 30-60 minutes
  • Follow-up review: Within a few days after the consultation
  • Next step scheduling: Assessment appointments arranged after consultation

Our intake team will guide families through the process and provide clear timelines for each stage.

Questions Families Often Ask

During the consultation, families commonly ask questions such as:

  • What type of therapy would be most helpful for my child?
  • How many therapy hours are recommended?
  • What does the assessment process involve?
  • How long does therapy typically last?
  • How can parents support their child's development at home?

Our team will provide clear answers and help families understand their options.

After the Consultation

After the consultation, the next steps may include:

  • Scheduling a comprehensive behavioral or developmental assessment
  • Gathering additional documents or reports if needed
  • Reviewing recommended services and therapy programs
  • Beginning the intake process for therapy services

Families will receive guidance from our team on how to move forward with the recommended services.
